Why are many people apathetic/indifferent and don't care?

people are rude to customer service workers. and the rude ones seem to far outweigh the friendly ones. matter of fact, for the most part, people are flat out rude/hateful/ugly to all service workers from gas stations to dine ins. someof us fight back. some just deal as best they can. but please note: if you are friendly to the workers at places you often frequent, they will notice. and p the word on and you will get better, more friendly service.
